The Viola Ford Fletcher Foundation (VFFF) has commissioned and handed over a water closet toilet facility to the Gomoa Dominase Methodist D/A KG, Primary, and Junior High Schools. The foundation constructed the 10-seater water closet facility at an estimated cost of GHC 15,000. The ceremony, which took place at the schools’ premises, attracted notable personalities, including Eze Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu, Paramount King of the Igbo People in Ghana and Vice President of Viola Ford Fletcher Foundation.
Dr. Eze Ihenetu, representing 108-year-old visioner of the foundation Mother Viola Ford Fletcher, said that the VFFF was delighted to contribute to the growth and development of young ones through the provision of the facility. He emphasized the importance of children and the need to provide them with proper sanitation facilities for their growth.
The facility replaces an old one, which some of the pupils complained about due to stench and the presence of maggots. Dr. Eze Ihenetu regretted that the lack of modern and proper toilet facilities in public schools could trigger infections that could destroy lives, but a good place of convenience would save lives.
He appealed to the school authorities, the children, and all who mattered to support the upkeep and maintenance of the facility. He urged them to ensure regular maintenance of the facility and promised that the foundation would provide more when the need arises.
The MP and DCE for Gomoa East, Mr. Desmond De-Graft Paitoo and Mr. Solomon Darko Quarm, respectively, expressed gratitude to the Viola Ford Fletcher Foundation for providing the facility. They urged the community to take ownership and responsibility for maintaining the facility.
The Headmaster of the schools, Mr. Daniel Attah Nkrumah, was appreciative of the VFFF for coming to the aid of the schools. He appealed for support to provide a fence wall to the school to ward off encroachers, truancy, and intruders.
In conclusion, the Viola Ford Fletcher Foundation has contributed immensely to the development of Gomoa Dominase Methodist D/A KG, Primary, and Junior High Schools by providing a water closet toilet facility. The foundation has emphasized the importance of proper sanitation facilities in public schools to save lives. It is the responsibility of the community to take ownership and maintain the facility for the benefit of the pupils.
