The Department of Nursing and Midwifery at the University for Development Studies (UDS) has come under scrutiny for their handling of students. Many students have reported their dissatisfaction with the way the department operates, and are calling for change.
One of the main issues students face is the length of time it takes to complete the program. Certificate nurses who want to pursue a degree at UDS are finding it difficult to complete the course within the expected time frame. This has caused a lot of frustration for students who want to progress their careers.
Sandwich students who work alongside their studies are also facing issues with the program. They are required to spend a certain number of months each year studying at the university, but the academic calendar is often not planned in advance. This causes a lot of stress for students who need to arrange time off work.
The IT department at UDS is also facing criticism for their handling of student results. Students have reported that it can take several months for their results to be uploaded, and some students have even had their results held for three years. This has caused a lot of stress and confusion for students who need their results to progress their careers.
For the most part, students are calling for more transparency and communication from the department. They want to know what is happening with their results and academic calendars, and they want to be kept up to date with any changes.
We are calling on the Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor, the Registrar, Governing Board, all nursing associations, SRC and all concerned students of UDS to take action. We urge them to investigate the issues raised by students and take steps to address the concerns.
It is important that the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at UDS takes responsibility for their shortcomings and works towards creating a better learning environment for students. They have a responsibility to nurture and develop their students, and this cannot be done in an environment of incompetence.
