The Nkwanta Police Station has re-arrested two of the suspects who escaped from its cells on Tuesday. The suspects, Mohammed Kadir and Stephen Asamoah, were apprehended in their hideout in Keri, a farming community in Nkwanta South. The two were being held on charges of robbery and defilement, respectively. Reports indicate that this is the second time that the police have managed to capture Kadir after he escaped from custody earlier this year.

Following the escape, the police launched an immediate manhunt and have managed to recapture three of the escapees so far. However, Danjumah Afu, the first escapee to be re-arrested, is reported to have consumed poison upon being taken into custody. He is currently receiving medical treatment and will be arraigned before the Jasikan Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 13, 2023.

The incident has raised concerns about the state of security in the area and the ability of the police to safeguard detainees. The Nkwanta Police Station has come under scrutiny for its lack of proper facilities and resources. The Ghana Police Service has been called upon to investigate the matter and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of all detainees in their custody.
