Tullow Ghana, a partner in the Jubilee Oil Fields, has taken a step further in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by constructing a 300-capacity girls’ dormitory block for the Methodist Senior High School in Kansaworodo, a town located in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
The project is expected to commence next week and completed within 12 months by ICONMAN Construction Limited, as part of Tullow Ghana’s Stand Alone Projects (SAP) interventions in schools, particularly in the oil enclave.
During the ground-breaking ceremony of the girls’ dormitory, a senior advisor in charge of social performance at Tullow Ghana, Mr Elijah Boye-Ampah, assured the school that 90% of the project would be completed by December 2023. He also called on the school management committee, the board of governors, and the Ghana Education Service to ensure a free flow of communication with the contractor and Tullow Ghana to bring the project to fruition.
The Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church, who chairs the board of governors of the school, the Right Reverend Emmanuel K.Ansah, appealed to Tullow Ghana to speed up the work on the girls’ dormitory to be completed before March 2024. He also requested that the oil company consider a boys’ dormitory block for the school to give it full boarding status.
In response to these requests, Tullow Ghana pledged its commitment to the timely execution of the project, and the headmistress of the school, Madam Grace Eshun, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Tullow Ghana for its support.
The construction of the girls’ dormitory block is not the first time Tullow Ghana has executed such projects in schools. The oil company has previously constructed similar projects in schools such as Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School, Bonzo Kaku Senior High, Nsein Senior High, Annor Adjaye Senior High, and Axim Girls Senior High, among others.
For the most part, Tullow Ghana’s intervention in the educational sector of the country has brought immense benefits to the communities in which it operates. The construction of the girls’ dormitory block is a testament to the company’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians, particularly in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
