In the early hours of Sunday, May 7, 2023, a tipper truck crashed into the family house of the Founder and Leader of International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, located at Heman in the Kwabre East Municipal of the Ashanti Region. The accident left three people injured, including an 11-year-old girl, her grandmother, and a young man.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the tipper truck, which was being towed, had the chains connecting the two vehicles broken, losing control in the process. The truck, with registration number GR-7137-23, crashed into the house, destroying two bedrooms and injuring the occupants.

Maama Konadu, a member of the affected family, disclosed that her mother, 63-year-old Ama Konadu, her daughter, Joycelin Mensah, 11, and another young man, Daniel Owusu, 26, were in the two rooms. Daniel Owusu was trapped under the truck with one of the tires sitting on his leg after the accident. The two other victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Jamasi Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the tipper truck, who was travelling from Wa to Kumasi to fix the vehicle, had a broken-down car that needed repair. On reaching Heman, the truck broke from the towing car, and the driver, in an attempt to save the situation, ran into the family house causing severe injuries to the occupants.

The affected family has since filed a report to the police in the area, and the case has been taken over by the authorities. The incident is a reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the need for drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on long journeys.

For the most part, accidents like this could be avoided if drivers adhered to road safety rules and ensured their vehicles were in good condition before hitting the road. The incident also highlights the need for authorities to regularly monitor and enforce road safety regulations to prevent avoidable accidents. We wish the injured victims a speedy recovery and urge drivers to prioritize road safety at all times.
