Angry supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Sunyani West have pleaded with the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) to make the decision about the petition filed against Mrs. Evelyn Akantoa, a prospective member of parliament for the area.

In the Sunyani West Municipality, at a news conference held at Chiraa, more than 100 supporters voiced their displeasure over the verdict’s postponement.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Mr. Gyamfi Kumaning, a member of Mrs. Akantoa’s campaign team, said that after meeting with the FEC on Thursday, April 13, no decision had been made and the supporters’ patience was running thin.

Asserting that there was “foul play,” he claimed, “on Thursday, we were set to see the FEC at 16:00 hours and to our extreme amazement about midday we spotted a post on the Facebook of Ms. Millicent Amankwah, an opposing candidate, which read “when you are about to be declared unopposed in Sunyani West.”

The FEC was urged to make its decision public within 24 hours, according to Mr. Kumaning, who claimed that the young people in the district and Mrs. Akantoa’s supporters believed there had been a planned agenda against the candidate.

They were only asking the FEC to settle the dispute amicably, Mr. Kumaning stressed, adding that “just because there isn’t a war doesn’t mean there is peace.”

Because they were prepared to contest the decision, he said that “the unopposed agenda to favour Ms. Amankwah in the Sunyani West NDC primaries is not going to stand today, tomorrow, and would never happen.”
