She was born Suzanne Marie Somers to Marion Elizabeth (née Turner), a medical secretary, and Francis Mahoney, a labourer and gardener. She was the third of four children. Suzanne Somers attended Capuchino High School.

Suzanne Somers passed away on October 15, 2023. At the time of her death, she was 76 years old. She died a day before her 77th birthday. She was diagnosed with stage II cancer in April 2000 and had undergone lumpectomy and radiation therapy.
She passed after a recurrence of the cancer.
