At the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, a man, 26, was detained for pretending to be a doctor.
William Cyril Cohen is suspected of using his presence around the hospital to lure patients in and give them medication while posing as a doctor of medicine.
He was being treated for a patient who had been brought to the emergency ward on Monday, September 4, 2023 when he was taken into custody.
The guy apparently grew uneasy when a senior medical official approached him, tried to flee, but hospital security caught him.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Kwame Frimpong, said the hospital had measures in place to spot impostors.
“We have a team-based system where all the team members are known and also remember that it is a training institution so most of the time the people who join us are our former students and so it is a very close-knit community and the team members are known to each other.”
The suspect is seen being taken by hospital security in a video that is doing the rounds on social media while wearing a ward uniform. The hospital security afterwards handed the suspect over to the police.
The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is working with the police to investigate the matter.
