In order to increase students’ understanding of the constitution, the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) held a constitution quiz challenge for a few chosen Senior High Schools (SHS) in the New Juaben North Municipality.

“I know My Constitution” is the slogan. Participating schools included Pope John, SDA, Ghana Secondary, and Oyoko Methodist Senior High Schools. The challenge’s focus was on the chapters and clauses of Ghana’s 1992 constitution and how crucial it is for upholding citizens’ rights and obligations.

The NCCE’s Eastern regional director, Ms. Ophelia Nana Yaa Ankrah, stated that the organization’s mission of educating the public about the Ghanaian constitution was crucial to the country’s development agenda and called for stakeholder support.

The quiz, according to her, was one of several tactics and resources the NCCE used to instill in young people an understanding of the constitution’s principles as well as their rights and obligations as citizens for socioeconomic growth.

On her part, New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive Madam Comfort Asante praised the NCCE for the initiative and stated that understanding the constitution was essential to ensuring a peaceful society.

The NCCE’s New Juaben North Director, Mr. Ebenezer Acheampong, thanked partners including B Foster Bakery and Multi-Pro Limited for helping to organise the quiz.

Pope John Minor Seminary and SHS came in second, followed by Ghana Secondary SHS, Oyoko Methodist SHS, and SDA SHS, who secured the third and fourth spots, respectively.

100 copies of the 1992 Constitution were provided by the Governance Africa Foundation for distribution to local schools.
