About fifteen television stations have received a warning from the National Media Commission (NMC) telling them to stop airing any content that isn’t considered appropriate.
The NMC issued a warning, stating that failure to heed their own advice will have dire implications.
The public filed complaints against these TV stations for airing programming that was deemed inappropriate by Ghanaian culture, customs, and standards as well as media ethics.
X TV, Asomdwie TV, Funny TV, Advice TV, Big TV, Passion TV, Nkabom TV, Seekers TV, Elephant TV, Adwenpa TV, Eagle TV, Best TV, Energy TV, Diamond TV, and Asomafo TV are a few among them.
The NMC in a statement issued on Thursday said “For the stations listed above, we hereby serve them notice to cease and desist from those activities otherwise there will be severe consequences.”
The Commission stated that in order to find and fix deficiencies in broadcast material, it worked with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to produce the study.
It showed that 318 occurrences in all had been reported by members of the public. The panel stated that of the events that were reported, 224 included money-doubling; 83 involved money rituals; 24 involved fictitious lotteries; 18 involved occult practices; and 13 involved pornography.
The remaining accusations included individuals attempting to defraud others of their money and false lending scams.
According to the NMC, the public will be briefed shortly on its decision about the TV stations mentioned above.
