The major opposition party, the NDC, as well as civil society organizations and other stakeholders, have not warmly embraced Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s 2024 Budget speech.
They contend that the budget fell short of expectations and neglected to address important issues that were vital to guaranteeing the nation’s economic recovery and progress.
The Ministry of Finance workers welcomed the Finance Minister with a praise and worship session following the budget’s introduction in Parliament, in spite of the unfavorable response to the budget.
The Finance Minister was welcomed by a line of staff members singing triumphant songs on the Finance Ministry’s forecourt, as captured in a now-viral video.
Some members of the public, notably Pru East Member of Parliament Dr. Kwabena Donkor, were offended by this action and did not think well of it.
He thinks that it is improper for public employees to be observed partaking in such obviously politically driven actions.
He remarked that the Head of the Civil Service should summon the staff members to order right now and that their behavior should not be tolerated.
Ghanaians are voicing their disapproval of the behavior on social media in response to the video, which has caused an X storm.
