Warrant Officer II Esther Saan, the sixth defendant in the ongoing coup plotters case, has been remanded into jail by the High Court in Accra after having her bail revoked.
This comes after investigations by the Court showed that the accused’s allegations that her absence from court on June 6 was due to an admission at the Police Hospital were false.
On June 13, the Court gave the General Jurisdiction registrar instructions to confirm a medical certificate presented by the accused’s solicitors as evidence of her admission. The demand for the certificate’s verification was sparked by the fact that the certificate did not specify whether she was admitted, according to the court.
In a report to the court on Wednesday, the registrar of the General Jurisdiction of the High Court stated that based on his investigations at the hospital, it was discovered that the accused attended the facility on June 6 at around 2:00 p.m., after the eye clinic had closed, and was then sent to the emergency room.
With regard to the registrar’s report, the Warrant Officer II’s attorney had no objections. The assertion was incorrect and in violation of the terms of her bail, the court stated, as the report did not corroborate that she was in fact admitted.
She was released from her bail restrictions when the judge determined that she would not appear for her trial based on her behaviour. Her detention has been extended till further notice.
