Following a fight with tricycle drivers on the grounds of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), six police officers have been hurt.
The incident happened on August 7, 2023, a Monday.
When the owners surrounded the property to recover their impounded tricycles, the police were summoned to keep things under control.
The regrettable situation was reported by Nana Afuah Konadu, Head of Communications.
“If you go to the hospitals, you will see various injuries they have sustained. We realised the situation was getting out of hand. They were not ready to comply, they were ready to hurt anybody that came their way.
“They just didn’t allow law or order to work, so the military came in, I think about seven or so came in to disperse the crowd. They have left. As you can see, we are continuing for one week, and it will continue again depending on the state of affairs,” she narrated.
In the recent days, tricycle riders have been in a fight with the Assembly over a resolution to ban their activities in the CBD.
To avoid traffic accidents, the assembly decided on April 29, 2023, to limit tricycle use to specific locations around the CBD.
Some tricycle drivers, however, have chosen to disregard the regulations.
Madam Konadu has declared that the KMA will stand by its decision notwithstanding the opposition.
