Johnnie Hughes, the popular radio host of “Johnnie’s Bite,” has expressed his concern over President Nana Akufo-Addo’s silence regarding the recent Al Jazeera investigative report on Ghana’s gold mafia. The report has stirred up public and political discussions in the country, and Johnnie’s Bite has dedicated a segment to delve deeper into the issues raised in the documentary.

During the show, Hughes questioned why President Akufo-Addo has not responded to Al Jazeera’s report, despite the presidency’s previous request for an apology from the news firm for including the President’s name in the documentary. However, Al Jazeera refused to retract or apologize for the report.

In response to an email inquiry by Johnnie’s Bite investigative team, Al Jazeera stated that they have corrected and clarified portions of the letter they wrote in response to the Presidency’s request for an apology.

Johnnie Hughes expressed his surprise at the presidency’s reluctance to announce Al Jazeera’s response, suggesting that if it were a Ghanaian media outlet, they would have caved in and withdrawn the case. He urged other media houses to focus on demanding answers from the government instead of claiming to be the first to probe further into the matter.

Al Jazeera has written back to the Presidency, correcting parts of the content and clarifying points raised in the President’s letter. Ghanaians are eager to hear a response from the Presidency, given Al Jazeera’s refusal to offer an apology.

For the most part, the big questions being asked are why President Akufo-Addo has remained silent on the matter and where all the people fighting back for the President are in the wake of Al Jazeera’s response. The issue has garnered significant attention, and it remains to be seen what action the Presidency will take in response to Al Jazeera’s report.
