In the theft case involving Cecilia Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kufour, certain members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may seek to modify the present charge sheet, according to Sam Nartey George, member of parliament for Ningo Prampram.
Sam George stated that he learned about this on Friday in parliament when speaking on Joynews’ Newsfile on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
He claims that efforts are being made to guarantee that the sums of money mentioned in the court documents—amounts that reportedly astonished many—will be decreased.
Because it would compromise the privacy of a private conversation, he said, “I won’t identify names, but yesterday in parliament, after news of this incident leaked, a top government official and a senior NPP official made it known that they intended to engage in public relations spin and have the charge sheet modified.”
He further said;
“And the attempt to change it is due to the seriousness of the theft in an effort to reduce the numbers, so Ghanaians should be on the lookout for that. You’ll soon notice a charge sheet with the numbers in question missing a few zeros.
The MP also inquired as to the reasoning behind some party members’ claims that the reports and data were distorted.
Additionally, he pointed out that the figures in the report, like the $1 million USD, the $300,000 EUR, and the millions of GHC, demonstrate how wealthy government officials are, at the expense of the average people.
“Look, you can’t tell us that you’ve now realised the number wasn’t what it was or that it was a misrepresentation now that this has come to the attention of the public.
“It just amazes me that we have a minister of state—the ‘borla’ minister, for lack of a better term—who has over $1 million in US dollars in her home, as well as 300,000 euros and millions of Ghana cedis, and you have the Minister of Information telling you go and sell your dollars, stop hoarding your dollars. It is obvious that the Akufo-Addo government’s members are not paying attention, are not living up to their words, and have a different perspective on Ghanaians than they do about themselves and the rest of the world. They also have a different perspective on themselves than those of them who hold positions of power.
“If you pay close attention to what Nana Akufo-Addo stated, he said that while we have money, we are still hungry and that others have wealth while we are in need.” he said.
