Singathon Afua Aduonum – Afua Asantewaa’s medical team has revealed why they advised her to end her Guinness World Record sing-a-thon attempt after five days.

After 126 hours and 52 minutes, the journalist and former beauty queen called it quits on her effort to smash the Guinness record.

This came after breaking the previous record of 105 hours held by Indian Sunil Waghmare in 2012.

Dr. Grace Buckman, the leader of Afua’s medical team, explained the decision to terminate the sing-a-thon by saying there was a need to prioritize her health.

She saw that Afua’s bodily system had been harmed by her lack of sleep and that she was beginning to display indications of mental stress.

“There’s only a point you can go as a person. She has done so well and we are extremely proud of her,” Dr Buckman said, as quoted by the Graphic Online.

“We have gotten to a point that as a medical team, her health is very important. At the moment, we want her to rest so she will bounce back to us.”

Meanwhile, Afua is awaiting formal certification and verification of her new record by Guinness World Record assessors.

Her effort to beat the record lasted five days, beginning on December 24, 2023 and ending on December 29, 2023.

Several Ghanaian celebrities have also descended on Akwaaba village in support of the journalist and former beauty queen.

Becca, Cina Soul, Sista Afia, Kwabena Kwabena, Eno Barony, Kobi Rana, Sarkodie, and Nana Ama McBrown have all arrived in person to support her in the previous five days.

Ghana’s Vice President and flagbearer of the ruling NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was also there to give morale for the record attempt.
