Amaning, a 24-year-old guy who assaulted and robbed a University of Ghana (Legon) student, was given a term by an Accra Circuit Court.
Amaning received a 36-year prison sentence for robbing the student’s residence with three helpers and taking GHS 2,810 worth of goods.
Chief Inspector Moses Tetteh, the case’s prosecutor, testified in court that on September 15, 2019, the defendant broke into the complainant’s residence and searched the place for valuables.
He was able to grab some things before threatening the student with a rifle and demanding that he hand up his belongings, which included a laptop and two phones.
While his associates, Kwame Agyekum and Kofi Kwarteng, were on the watch, he planned the attack.
They were going to escape the area when their luck ran out when the complainant raised an alert.
Some upset locals caught them and turned them over to the police. One of the conspirators, however, managed to flee and is still at large.
The court after hearing the case’s facts, found the accomplices innocent.
However, despite his request for clemency, Amaning was found guilty and given a 36-year prison term.
