Reasons Otumfuo Osei Tutu II won’t celebrate his birthday in Manhyia in 2023


Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, resides in the United Kingdom city of London.

The monarchy invited the Asante king to the historic coronation of King Charles III, thus he is currently in the UK on official business.


The Asantehene is one of the few African heads of state who have been invited to grace the extraordinary event, which will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey in the heart of London.

In the Asante kingdom, the day is also notable because it is also Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s birthday.

The king has already received many well wishes from a variety of sources.

Asante Nation’s Facebook page, for example, posted the following:

The Asante king wouldn’t be spending his birthday this year with the citizens of his realm in Ghana since he would be in London on official business.

Earlier, on May 4, 2023, the king had a private meeting with King Charles III and his wife, Lady Julia.

However, on May 3, 2023, the Asantehene departed from Ghana.

While in the United Kingdom for the King of England’s coronation, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is also there.

The Commonwealth made this known on Friday, May 5, 2023, via its official Twitter account.

According to the statement, King Charles III welcomed Ghana’s president before the coronation as the new Head of the Commonwealth.

As 2023 is the Year of Youth, the release stated that “leaders discussed areas of mutual interest, including the empowerment of young people.”
