The latest event in which unknown shooters targeted a gathering, killing two and injuring four, serves as a sobering reminder of the long-standing issues.

“The uncomfortable truth is that the level of impunity in Bawku is unfathomable, it defied all semblance of sanity. The probability of you getting held to account for killing in Bawku is almost zero. The Police themselves are protecting themselves and have constructed a huge wall.”

Speaking on 3FM’s Hot Edition, Mr. Sani voiced great worry about the appalling degree of impunity in Bawku, where being held accountable for violent conduct is nearly impossible.

Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku, strongly denounced the latest shootings and urged law enforcement to quickly capture and prosecute the culprits.

As part of its attempts to restore order, the administration earlier extended curfew hours and enforced a blanket ban on carrying firearms in the impacted districts.
