President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has nominated Paul Andoh as the new Chief Executive for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly in the Western North Region. This nomination is in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

Mr. Andoh will replace Alfred Amoah, who died in a car accident in July last year, on his way back to Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai from an official meeting of all metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs) at the Jubilee House.

The notice of the nominee was given to the Western North Minister by the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dan Botwe.

Western North Regional Minister, Joojo Rocky Obeng, has informed the Assembly that a special meeting will be held soon to confirm the nominee.

Mr. Andoh’s appointment comes amidst debates on the government’s recent appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). The president’s nomination of individuals for the MMDCE positions has been met with some opposition and protest, with some arguing that the process should be done through an election to allow for more local input and participation.

However, President Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians that he will continue to follow the constitution in appointing MMDCEs across the country.
