Koku Anyidoho, a former deputy general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned flagbearer John Dramani Mahama sternly about his selection of a running partner.
Although Mr. Mahama hasn’t decided on a candidate for the general elections in 2024, rumors suggest that he could select between his 2020 running partner, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah.
However, Mr. Anyidoho believes that if Mahama selects a candidate other than Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the 2024 elections will be disastrous for the opposition party.
“I am very much concerned about issues of integrity and no matter which way we examine it, Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang is light years ahead of Julius and all the other names being bandied about and if John Mahama makes a mistake and makes the wrong choice, he will carry his cross of defeat again for the third time – and he will not be forgiven” he stated.
When Mr. Mahama’s reputation was in doubt, the former deputy general secretary of the NDC did not understand why Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was being blamed for the loss in 2020.
“Was Jane Naana the one to deal with the personal problems and heavy burden of the flagbearer? Certainly not! If the flagbearer himself and his close aides failed woefully in handling all the heavy missiles from the NPP, why blame the running mate?” he quizzed.
Koku Anyidoho is of the opinion that the topic of “integrity” will be a major issue in the election of next year, and if the NDC permits the flagbearer to play “cha cha” with it, the party will be held responsible.
