Atwima Nwabiagya South Representative Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere was in danger of being assaulted by irate voters until police officers stepped in and stopped them.
The MP was in the region the day after the body of John Kwame Asumang, 57, who drowned during Wednesday’s rain, was found.
The dead attempted to cross a bridge during a downpour but perished.
Locals blamed the area’s bad roads and collapsed bridge for his death.
Anger was directed at the MP by his constituents when he visited the scene on Friday, June 23, the morning following the announcement of the 57-year-old’s passing.
He was booed by the locals, and some of them threw rocks and other objects at him.
In a video, it can be seen that Mr. Anhwere tried to defend himself, but the irate locals would not hear him and kept on molestation him.
If the police hadn’t intervened, the Atwima Nwabiagya South MP told Citi News, things might have become worse.
The accusations that he was mobbed, however, were denied by him.
“There has been commotion in the neighbourhood, rain in the region, and a death was reported. They required some gravel to fill the area so that vehicles could travel the roads, so the deceased’s brother phoned me and asked me to come over. They had to take me out when I left because that incident occurred when I went. Just that. It would have been a different scenario, to be honest, if it weren’t for the cops. They just took me to my car when they noticed the gathering was growing, he recalled.
