The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Dampare, is allegedly the target of a scheme, according to the Parliamentary Adhoc Committee, which has received a fresh tape in the investigation.
On Monday, Samuel Atta Akyea, the Committee’s chairman, revealed this to the media.
The new tape, according to the MP for Abuakwa South, is thought to be the original tape.
The Committee would need to listen to the new audio and contrast it with the one it already possessed, he added, declining to reveal the tape’s source.
He indicated that the conclusion will guide the investigation’s future course.
Additionally, Mr. Atta-Akyea disclosed that the Committee has received petitions from certain top police officials.
Following Superintendent George Asare’s Monday appearance before the committee as one of the officers mentioned on the audio, this development has occurred.
Similar to COP George Alex Mensah, Director of Operations for the Ghana Police Service, who appeared before the committee last week, Supt. Asare said the recording had been altered and that there existed an original tape.
Among other things, Supt. Asare said that Daniel Bugri Naabu, the star witness and former chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Northern Regional Committee, lied when he testified before the Committee.
