One of the police officers involved in the conversation that was recorded and is currently the subject of an investigation by a parliamentary committee, Superintendent George Asare, has claimed that he did not look into a statement he made about Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Secretary to the President, that Bediatuo was the root of all issues.
Their conversation at Daniel Bugri Naabu’s office was recorded after Superintendent Asare made the remark.
When asked if he made the aforementioned remark based on what he had heard others make about the President’s Secretary or if he had looked into and verified it before making the remark, Superintendent Asare responded that he had no idea the conversation would end up in the public eye.
He said to the committee that Bugri Naabu had asked him to his Osu office in Accra and that Superintendent Asare had not proposed the meeting in question.
He asserted that he went to Bugri Naabu’s office at his request after learning that the government was looking for a new IGP and asking for suggestions from the former NPP Northern Regional Chairman.
He stated that he had recommended COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah and COP Alex Mensah to Bugri Naabu.
“I went to Mr Naabu’s office on his invitation…after he told me that the government was looking for a new IGP and asked me for recommendations…I made three recommendations, including COP Alex Mensah, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah and Christian Tetteh Yuhuno,” Supt. Asare said.
Additionally, he disclosed to the Parliamentary Committee that the meeting in question, which Bugri Naabu recorded, occurred on June 19, 2023.
