Perez Musik, a gospel artist who goes by the stage name Frank Tagoe, said he was shocked to learn he had won the Best Male Vocalist and Songwriter categories at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

The Blema Tesaa singer claimed that although though he put in a lot of effort and was certain of winning, the other finalists also deserved to take home the prize.

“To some extent, I will say I had a little hope because I believe I worked really hard. And I trusted that all the nominees for that category we all have equal opportunity to win.

“I was really humbled by it though I expected it, when my name was mentioned my heart skipped a beat,” he said on Accra-based Onua TV.

In the category of Songwriter of the Year, the rookie outperformed artists such as Black Sherif, the current Artiste of the Year, Piesie Esther, Fameye, Diana Hamilton, and Ewurabena.

Perez Musik competed in the Best Male Vocal Performance category against Stonebwoy, King Promise, Camidoh, and Kyei Mensah.

At the 24th iteration of the music festival, Perez Musik’s song Hewale Lala received five nominations and left with two prizes.

He was also nominated in the following categories: Record of the Year; Best Gospel Song; and Best Gospel Artiste.
