Pastor arrested over death of 42-year-old woman

In a tragic development, pastor Isaac Okyeam, also known as “Pastor Owusu,” a man of God, has been detained for allegedly being the cause of the death of Ama Nkansah Appiah, a 42-year-old lady.

The victim experienced burns as a result of spiritual oil that the pastor reportedly applied during a spiritual session.

The event took place on April 25, 2023, in Akyem Asawase, an area of Akyem Awisa in the Eastern Region’s Birim South District.

Adwoa Gloria, the deceased’s younger sister, claims that when her sister went to the pastor for spiritual guidance, she came home burned.

After being hospitalized, she was moved from the Oda Government Hospital to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where she passed away on May 2.

The priest denied any misconduct when the family got in touch with him.

The pastor’s left hand and foot were also burned, it was later found.

Further investigations found that the fire that resulted in the woman’s injuries was sparked by Pastor Owusu apparently using a spiritual oil during his customary incantations.

Another sister of the dead, Priscilla Asmah, emphasized that the rumors that were going about Akyem Oda that her sister had been assaulted by a jealous spouse were untrue.

The preacher has been taken into custody by the Akyem Oda police as the deceased’s family searches for justice for their late sister.

The tragedy has sparked debate about the necessity for business regulation as well as careless spiritual practices.
