Madam Dorcas Naa Korklu Afotey, a philanthropist and parliamentary candidate aspirant in the Krowor Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, has provided a ray of hope for women in her constituency with the roll-out of employable skills training for 1,000 NDC Branch Women Executives. The training is aimed at equipping the women with the necessary skills to become financially independent and enhance their socio-economic livelihoods.

Speaking to the media, Madam Afotey expressed her concern about the high level of unemployment and poverty in the area, and her hope that the training would help alleviate the plight of women in the constituency. The beneficiaries were trained in soap making and pastries, and encouraged to form cooperatives and provided with working capital to start their own businesses.

For the most part, employable skills training remains the surest strategy for wealth creation and poverty reduction in rural communities, and Madam Afotey promised to ensure that all deserving women in the area benefited from the training. She also gave assurance that the empowerment and skills acquisition training would be a continuous exercise, with the goal of touching the lives of as many constituents as possible.

The intervention by Madam Afotey has been well-received by parents and beneficiaries, who praised the program for providing them with a source of livelihood and improving their economic growth. They urged their fellow delegates to vote for Madam Afotey in the upcoming election to ensure the continuation of such social intervention programs.

In a time where the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the economic challenges faced by many Ghanaians, the initiative by Madam Afotey is a much-needed boost for women in the Krowor Constituency. It is hoped that more individuals and organizations will emulate this example and provide similar opportunities for people to acquire employable skills and become self-sufficient.
