During a crucial meeting conducted on Friday at the Manhyia Palace, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the respected king and owner of Asante Kotoko, expressed his disappointment and concern with the club’s current situation.

The purpose of the gathering, which was attended by fans and former players, was to discuss the club’s status after the three-year term of the Dr. Kwame Kyei-led board had come to an end.

During the gathering, a number of urgent concerns were discussed and important details were made public, including the club’s astronomical debt of more than GH3 million.

The Asantehene conveyed his displeasure with the direction the club is taking, and those in attendance acknowledged and shared his views.

He declared that the only institution that was defaming him was Asante Kotoko.

After finishing the previous season without a trophy, Kotoko, long recognised as one of the biggest clubs in Africa, now finds it difficult to compete on the domestic level.

A far cry from their strong performances in the CAF Champions League throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the club hasn’t won an African championship in forty years.

The Asantehene’s worries about Kotoko’s present situation serve as a reminder of the necessity for a new strategy and planning if the team is to regain its former glory.

As Kotoko’s fans and stakeholders saw the need for development, the conference at the Manhyia Palace was crucial in setting the organization’s future trajectory.
