The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reported to a Special Committee the violence that transpired at its Greater Accra Regional Office during the screening of applicants for the Odododiodio seat parliamentary primary.
Following significant consideration, the decision was made at the FEC’s regular meeting on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
The Special Committee has also been entrusted with investigating an appeal procedure filed in relation to one of the candidates’ illegibility.
Former Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, NDC National Vice Chairman, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC Deputy Legal Director, Mr. George Loh, NDC Deputy Director of Communications, Obobia Darko-Opoku, and Wa West constituency Member of Parliament (MP), Peter Lanchene Toobu comprise the Special Committee.
Meanwhile, all processes related to the party’s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency have been halted until the conclusion of the Special Committee’s investigations.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the opposition party’s general secretary, signed the news release announcing the FEC’s decision.
The Odododiodio Constituency parliamentary primary has been beset by controversy, with several contenders charging the party leadership of favoritism and bias.
The violence that transpired during the screening of aspirants at the NDC’s Greater Accra Regional Office has been severely criticized.
