Bishop Daniel Obinim, the founder of International God’s Way Church, has revealed that one of his junior pastors used an amount of GH600,000 from his company’s coffers to stake a bet.

The pastor had confidence in winning the bet because the odds given to him were great, according to Obinim. He had planned to return the actual amount once he won and keep the dividends. However, luck wasn’t on his side as he lost the bet, leaving the company after him for their money.

Bishop Obinim used the occasion to pray for a church member who was in debt due to sports betting. He warned his congregation against the dangers of betting, emphasizing that it was not a reliable means of making money.

The act of staking bets and playing the lottery has become very popular among young men and women in Ghana, with many testifying to its financially draining effects. Betting companies have proliferated in Ghana, promising huge returns on investments, but with little guarantee of success.
