Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Ex-President John Dramani Mahama to be careful with their utterances in order not to incite violence.

Salam Mustapha expressed his dissatisfaction with recent comments by leaders in the NDC, especially the former President, which he believes have the potential to incite their followers to engage in violent acts.

Mr. Mahama, while speaking at Tain and Banda constituency in the Bono East Region, told his supporters that the NDC will leave nothing to chance in their quest to regain power in the 2024 general elections.

“I have no doubt that NDC will win the 2024 elections. So, the vote will be a do or die affair and we will be matching them boot to boot at the polling station,” he said.

The NPP Youth Organizer found Mr. Mahama’s comments very unfortunate and called on leaders to be mindful of their speech.

He warned the NDC to desist from inciting their supporters to engage in violence, saying “2024 election is not war. We are not going to war. It is elections, not stone-throwing; so they should prepare for elections”.

The NPP Youth Organizer’s call comes on the back of several warnings by security agencies against politicians who make inflammatory statements that could disrupt the peace in the country.

It is important for politicians to choose their words carefully to avoid creating unnecessary tension and violence during election periods.
