Asokwa Adansi Kobina Tahir Hammond, a.k.a. K.T. Hammond, a member of parliament, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to hold onto power in the 2024 elections.

In a media interview following the November 15, 2023, budget reading, Hammond stressed that the party is committed to winning a historic third term in government in order to carry on the advancements in development that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo started.

He attacked the minority’s attitude and called them “jokers” in reaction to what he saw as contemptuous gestures made during the finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s budget reading.

He expressed confidence in the NPP’s capacity to regain power on the basis of ongoing initiatives and accomplishments in development.

“I mean these guys are jokers, they were waving goodbye to us, we are ‘Breaking the Eight,’ and we are coming back under Mahamudu Bawumia. The next administration in 2025, NPP will be sitting at that same side that you saw us today,” Hammond asserted.

He added, “There is 1D1F, all the cars that we are manufacturing, there is an industrial transformation that is taking place, the agric front, the exchange rate will be stabilized.”

The NPP is committed to winning in 2024 in order to break the customary eight-year cycle of shifting power. The party is aiming to win another term in the next elections after winning the presidency in 2016 and keeping it in 2020.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is aiming for a resurgence in the meanwhile. The party is relying on former President John Mahama’s leadership to drive its comeback after losing to the NPP in the last election.
