Mr Asenso Boakye, Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti region, has expressed doubts over the eligibility of his opponent, Lawyer Ralph Opoku Agyepong, in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.
Ralph Opoku Agyepong, a lawyer, has secured the nomination form to run against Mr Asenso Boakye in the party’s primary.
Mr Asenso Boakye claims that his candidate does not match the party’s constitutional candidacy qualifications.
According to Mr Asenso Boakye, the party’s Constitution requires a person to have cultivated the party for at least two years in order to participate in parliamentary primaries.
He claims that his candidate has been inactive in the party for more than three months, making him ineligible.
Despite this, Mr Asenso Boakye has stated that he would not seek the disqualification of his competitor.
He asserted boldly that his opponent is no match for him, underlining his certainty of victory in any next election.
Mr. Asenso Boakye addressed the media after submitting his nomination form for the second time to contest the seat, emphasizing his commitment to serve the constituency and his confidence in obtaining another term.
