According to a study conducted by research organization Global Info Analytics, Francis Asenso-Boakye, the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Bantama, would easily win the party’s next parliamentary primary.
The survey found that over 90 percent of NPP members in the constituency had stated that they will be voting to maintain Asenso-Boakye as the NPP parliamentary candidate for the 2024 general elections.
It further stated that just one percent of NPP voters planned to vote for Asenso-Boakye’s opponent, Raphael Agyapong, the brother of previous NPP flagbearer candidate Kennedy Agyapong, on January 27, 2024.
However, 2% of respondents were indecisive, and another 3% chose not to reveal who they would vote for.
The majority of research participants said they would vote to keep the present MP because he has met a fair percentage of their developmental requirements.
More than 67% of participants believed the MP’s performance was outstanding.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, has threatened to reveal corruption allegations against Francis Asenso-Boakye if he is maintained as the party’s parliamentary candidate.
During a meeting with certain delegates on January 11, 2024, Ken, whose brother Ralph Agyapong is running against Asenso-Boakye in the next primary, argued in detail why the Bantama MP should not be retained.
“If you make a mistake and vote for Asenso, you will see the revelations I will bring out. Yes, I am telling you; it’s a condition. If you don’t want me to talk, vote against him.
“If you want me to talk, vote for him and I challenge you because we won’t allow you to destroy Ghana. We have no other place to go. Anyone challenging me here today that Kennedy Agyapong has spoken badly so they are going to vote for Asenso to win, you will see,” he said.
