Raphael Patrick Sarfo, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional youth organizer for Ashanti, has been elaborating on the reasons why his ballot was disqualified following voting at the Super Delegates Conference.
He said that upon approaching the voting booth, he just lifted his hands in response to applause, but that some agents mistook this for a vote for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
On Saturday, August 26, 2023, the Electoral Commission (EC) rejected the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser’s ballot.
The Commission outlined how the youth organizer’s actions were outside the election’s rules.
Since then, Mr. Safo has been reported to the party’s discipline committee for acting inappropriately during the just concluded Super Delegates Conference.
The NPP Ashanti Regional Youth leader responded to this on Monday’s episode of Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM by saying he will accept the offer.
“Idid nothing wrong. I have video evidence to prove my innocent so I will appear before the committee when invited to bring sanity in the party,” he stated.
Given the job he has done, Mr. Safo said, he is not required to cast his vote as proof of his allegiance to Dr. Bawumia.
“The Vice President knows my loyalty towards him and I’m really hurt I couldn’t vote for him,” he bemoaned.
The Ashanti Regional Organiser stated that there was a strong signal following the election and that efforts will be made to win in November.
Prior to, during, or following the flagbearer election, Mr. Safo said he would not disobey any party instruction.
