The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong, of making treasonable comments after he assured members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the economy would bounce back and that they had the “men” to prevent the NDC from using “threats, violence and foolishness” to win the 2024 election.
Fifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, responded by condemning Acheampong’s comments as “utterly reckless and treasonable”. However, the NPP dismissed the NDC’s statement as hypocritical and illogical, arguing that Acheampong was simply responding to John Dramani Mahama’s assertion that the 2024 general election was one of “do or die” for the NDC.
The NPP accused the NDC of resorting to violence and intimidation during general elections and suggested that Acheampong’s comments were intended to reassure NPP supporters that the party would not lose the 2024 election.
The NPP considers the NDC’s attack on Bryan Acheampong not only unwarranted but also attention-seeking with an ill attempt to emotionally blackmail Ghanaians to win their support and favour.
