NPP Communicator, Ellen Ama Daaku, has criticized the NDC’s petition to the Council of State over the appointment of two new Electoral Commission members. Speaking on TV3’s The Big Issues, she called it “one of the most unhealthful petitions ever presented” and accused the NDC of trying to tell its supporters that they are not ready for the 2024 elections.

The NDC, as well as some civil society organizations, has expressed concern over the appointment of Dr Peter Appiahene and Hajia Salima Ahmed Tijani. In a petition to the Council of State, National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia claimed that their political affiliations compromised their neutrality.

Madam Ama Daaku dismissed these claims, arguing that the NDC was simply not prepared for the upcoming elections. She accused the opposition party of “crying foul for nothing” and suggested that their complaints were a result of sour grapes.

While the appointment of new Electoral Commission members is always a contentious issue, it is important to ensure that those appointed are impartial and free from political influence. The NDC’s concerns are not unfounded, and it is up to the Council of State to carefully consider their petition and make a decision that is in the best interests of all Ghanaians.NPP Communicator Describes NDC Petition to Council of State as “Unhealthful”
