A newborn baby girl was found by a scrap trader as he was looking through electronic debris.
Just before dusk on Thursday, July 6, 2023—the infant was discovered by the unnamed scrap dealer—he was rummaging among the trash looking for items for his trade.
Residents of Anlo Town, a neighbourhood of Koforidua in the Eastern Region, were shocked when the strange find in the well-liked trash can next to a public lavatory caused them to go into shock.
According to Abu Amadu, an assemblyman for the Anlo Town Electoral Area, the scrap dealer told him that he witnessed a young woman place a black polythene bag into the trash can but did not suspect any wrongdoing in an interview.
He proceeded by saying that approximately an hour later, when he went into the bin to look for scraps, he found a black polythene bag instead.
To his horror, he discovered a newborn baby girl wrapped in the sack dead when he opened it.
The startled merchant then sounded an alarm, attracting the attention of surrounding citizens who then brought the problem to his notice.
The Assemblyman said that the scrap merchant was unable to identify the culprit since he did not live nearby.
After finding the deceased infant wrapped within the dump site, Mr. Amadu informed the authorities at the Koforidua Central police station about his discovery. The police had just come to check the area.
Since then, the infant’s remains have been transported to and deposited in the mortuary of the Eastern Regional Hospital for preservation and autopsy while police launch their inquiries into the occurrence in an effort to apprehend the person who committed the horrible act.
