Northern Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (NEDCo) has announced that it will conduct a general revenue mobilization exercise across its operational areas beginning April 18, 2023. The exercise will affect all categories of customers in arrears, including Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
According to a statement released by the management of NEDCo, the company will put in place special security arrangements to ensure the smooth running of the exercise. The statement also warned that anyone who interferes with the exercise will be arrested and prosecuted. Additionally, those engaged in illegal connections or reconnections will face legal action.
During the exercise, NEDCo’s Head Office and Area Offices will be temporarily closed to allow for the full engagement of all staff, including top management. However, customer service centers, zonal offices, and third-party vendors will remain open to address customer concerns, including reconnections.
The statement further noted that customers in arrears who have refused to redeem their indebtedness to the company after being served with Demand Notices will be arraigned before court. Therefore, NEDCo is urging all customers in arrears to pay their bills immediately to avoid disconnection and payment of reconnection fees.
The NEDCo management is imploring customers to cooperate with the exercise for it to be successful. The statement reiterated that the company can only serve its customers well when they pay their bills.
The revenue mobilization exercise by NEDCo is necessary to improve the company’s financial standing and ensure reliable power supply to customers. Therefore, customers are urged to comply with the exercise to avoid any inconvenience that may arise from disconnection or legal action.
