The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured its presidential, parliamentary aspirants, and supporters that the party is taking legal steps to ensure the successful conduct of its primaries, scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2023. This assurance follows the recent suit filed against the primaries by one of the three presidential aspirants, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor.

Duffuor had earlier raised concerns about the credibility of the party’s voter register, thereby demanding a halt to the primaries until a complete photo album register is produced. According to him, data from only 220 out of the 275 constituencies had been verified, and an exception list of 74,799 had been created, which could not be verified due to scanty information provided about them in the photo album register. He also wants the party to deliver the complete voter register to him at least five weeks ahead of the election.

In response, the NDC leadership has expressed confidence that the presidential and parliamentary primaries will hold as scheduled. The party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, disclosed that the full delegates’ list had been made available to all presidential candidates as of April 20, 2023, in line with the party’s guidelines. He, therefore, dismissed Duffuor’s claims, saying the party has taken note of his concerns and is working to overcome the temporary challenge.

For the most part, the NDC has called on its members and supporters to remain calm as they look forward to rescuing the nation from what it described as “national collapse.” Meanwhile, the party’s primaries will be a critical milestone for selecting candidates who will represent the party in the 2024 general elections.

In a nutshell, while Duffuor’s suit has created some concerns about the smooth conduct of the NDC primaries, the party has assured its stakeholders of its readiness to take legal steps to address any challenges. The NDC remains committed to promoting transparency and credibility in its electoral processes, and it will do everything within its power to ensure a successful outcome of the primaries.
