A troubling development occurred when Daniel Nii Sackey Aidoo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary for the Domeabra-Obom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, was viciously attacked during a constituency meeting by people purported to be supporters of parliamentary candidate Isaac Awuku Yibor.
As required by an order from national headquarters, the event took place during a meeting called to elect important posts, such as the deputy for the constituency, the IT director, and the director of elections. Tensions started when supporters of Isaac Awuku Yibor objected to a certain candidate and threatened to keep him from voting, according to Moses Kabu Kubi Ocansey, the Constituency Chairman. But the Chairman disapproved of their position.
Chairman Kubi gave Nii Aidoo orders to get the letter from his car, which included directives from national headquarters, in order to resolve the disagreement. In a startling change of events, Mr. Yibor’s followers assaulted Nii Aidoo and severely beaten him.
Chairman Kubi disclosed that the Secretary passed out during the attack and was taken right away to the hospital to receive treatment. In an urgent appeal, NDC Greater Accra Regional and National leadership have been urged to step in by the party’s treasurer, Deborah Ntowry Nkansah. She has highlighted that the party’s prospects in the 2024 elections may be compromised if the constituency’s peace and order are not restored.
It has been unable to get in touch with Isaac Awuku Yibor for remarks about the supposed involvement of his followers despite several attempts. The incident emphasizes how quickly the NDC must intervene and find a solution in order to stop the situation from getting worse and preserve party unity in Domeabra-Obom.
