Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently filed an injunction application against the conduct of the party’s internal elections over concerns about the electoral album. Dr. Duffuor’s campaign team had identified errors in the album, which they claimed rendered it incomplete and inaccurate.

However, a Deputy General Secretary of the party, Mustapha Gbande, has assured that the concerns raised by Dr. Duffuor are being addressed. He explained on a radio show that steps were taken to correct the errors and give Dr. Duffuor the full complement of the album.

Mr. Gbande also stated that the party has not submitted the album to the Electoral Commission because it is not obliged to go by the album by law. He emphasized that the album does not form a substantive argument if any challenges arise.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary maintained that there was nothing right or wrong with the album, and as stakeholders, they all have the responsibility to check the system. When issues arise, the system must be checked and corrected.

Dr. Duffuor’s campaign team had earlier demanded a postponement of the May 13 Presidential Primaries over what they described as a flawed register. The team identified several discrepancies in the voters’ register for 220 constituencies, rendering it incomplete or inaccurate. They believed that going into the election with such a register undermined the credibility and integrity of the election, capable of causing irreparable damage to Dr. Duffuor’s flagbearer hopeful.

In the nutshell, the NDC Deputy General Secretary has assured that Dr. Duffuor’s concerns about the electoral album are being addressed, and steps have been taken to correct the errors. The party is not obliged to go by the album, and the album does not form a substantive argument if any challenges arise. The issues raised by Dr. Duffuor’s campaign team highlight the need for stakeholders to check and correct the system to ensure the credibility and integrity of the election.
