The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has given the go-ahead for 14 constituencies in the Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, and Ashanti Regions to proceed with their parliamentary primaries. The constituencies, which include Ayawaso Central, Amasaman, Afram Plains South, and Ayensuano, among others, had their primaries put on hold due to some challenges.

According to a statement signed by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party is satisfied that the challenges that led to the postponement of the primaries have been largely resolved. The statement directed all Regional Chairmen in the affected regions to put measures in place for the primaries to take place on May 13, 2023.

The statement read, “Regional Chairmen are enjoined to put in place the necessary mechanisms to ensure that the primaries are held on May 13, 2023, as planned. Consequently, opening of nominations and other consequential activities should be fast-tracked to meet the May 13, 2023 deadline. Where there are challenges, Regional Chairmen should alert us as a matter of urgency.”

The FEC further assured members of the NDC that it would work to resolve the challenges that led to the postponement of primaries in the remaining constituencies in the second half of the year.

It would be recalled that the NDC postponed its parliamentary primaries in the 14 constituencies in January 2023, citing some challenges that needed to be resolved before the primaries could take place. The party has, however, assured its members that the primaries would take place as scheduled.
