Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s campaign team has raised important concerns ahead of the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries scheduled for May 12th. In a statement signed by a member of the team, Kofi B. Kukubor, the team expressed their worries about the choice of candidate that the delegates will make.
The statement pointed out that Ghanaians are looking up to the NDC to elect a flagbearer who can implement policies that can fix the country’s economy within two years. This, they say, is a critical time for Ghana, and the party must present a sincere and untainted presidential candidate.
The statement continued by highlighting the need for a presidential candidate with a proven economic track record. It is essential to choose someone who can take on the task of tackling the cost of living challenges facing the country. The statement further said that the NDC cannot afford to have a flagbearer whose political record is tainted in any way.
The team specifically pointed out the Airbus scandal, where one of the candidates has been referred to as “Government Official 1.” They believe that the NDC cannot have a flagbearer who takes the party and its structures for granted.
The statement went on to raise a significant concern regarding the serious alcohol addiction issues of one of the candidates. The current times require a sober flagbearer who can tackle the challenges that Ghana faces as a country.
In conclusion, the team urged the party’s structures to disqualify candidates with alcohol addiction problems. Failing that, the statement called on delegates to vote massively against such candidates. The statement emphasized that this is a call to national duty, and it is vital that the party elects a sincere and untainted presidential candidate. For the most part, the NDC must present a presidential candidate who can lead Ghana to economic prosperity and not one blemished with scandals.
