National Security Operative Benjamin Awuley Addico has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Tema Circuit Court A for causing harm to a Ghanaian businessman, Jonas Mensah. Mr. Mensah had just cleared his container at the Tema Port and was driving to Accra when his car collided with Addico’s vehicle. After a confrontation, onlookers helped Mr. Mensah push his car back onto the road and he drove off, leaving Addico at the scene.

However, Addico got angry and chased Mr. Mensah, caught up with him, pulled him out of his car, and beat him up mercilessly. A police patrol team intervened and took both men to the Tema Regional Police CID for investigation. Mr. Mensah was treated for a head injury and discharged.

Assistant Superintendent of Police George Doe, the prosecutor in the case, narrated the details to the court presided over by Judge Agnes Opoku Banie. Addico was found guilty after a full trial and was ordered to compensate Mr. Mensah with GHS 6,000.00.

The incident highlights the issue of violence on Ghana’s roads, which can lead to serious injuries or loss of life. It also underscores the need for security operatives to act within the law when carrying out their duties. As Ghanaians, we must all work to promote a culture of safety on our roads, and hold those who break the law accountable for their actions.
