The National Cathedral of Ghana has responded to the Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s second publication on the scandals surrounding the stalled project.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker, following the publication of his five “bombshells,” released another scandal which indicts the National Cathedral Secretariat for identity theft in the registration of the National Cathedral and the Bible Museum Foundation in the US.

Dr Paul Opoku-Mensah, the Executive Director of the National Cathedral of Ghana, described the lack of knowledge of US systems displayed by the Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee in Ghana’s Parliament as “embarrassing.”

Distortion of Information

Dr Opoku-Mensah also explained that in arriving at that conclusion, the MP distorted information, reflecting the modus operandi of the MP. All his so-called ‘National Cathedral scandals’ are distortions of information on the project. The National Cathedral insists that the project has been implemented with integrity and without criminality. Just like the accusations in the McCarthy era in the US, the scope and benefits of the project after its completion will justify the investment into it.

The Accusation of Identity Theft

Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa’s accusation that the National Cathedral is guilty of the serious crime of identity theft in the registration of the National Cathedral Foundation in the USA is malicious. However, this distortion is neither the result of an accident nor ignorance.

The Executive Director of the National Cathedral, Dr Opoku-Mensah, went ahead to say that all these scandals were aimed at thwarting the efforts of the Cathedral project, which aims to serve as a place of worship and an icon of national significance.

For the most part, the National Cathedral of Ghana’s response points to the fact that the accusations by the Member of Parliament are nothing more than distortions of information, and the project has been implemented with integrity without criminality.
