According to Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, his promotion to Inspector General of Police (IGP) was solely based on merit.
On Tuesday, September 12, Dr. Akuffo Dampare spoke before the legislative committee looking into the recording of a conspiracy to have him removed from office. He claimed to have been conscientious in his work.
This is what brought him to the situation he is in now, according to that diligence.
According to Dr. Akuffo Dampare, he did not receive favors in order to obtain his post.
“So in terms of my ranking in the police service, it has been purely based on my competencies, my academic qualifications and hard work because of the passion I have for the work. I have not at any point in time been called aside by any individual and granted me any favour,” he said.
On Friday, September 8, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare was requested to appear before the Ad-hoc committee.
This comes after the allegations made against him by the earlier witnesses, which the committee thinks need to be addressed.
The committee chairman had stated on Sunday that the session will take place behind closed doors.
He claimed that in order to safeguard national security, certain details of the hearing needed to remain private.
However, this approach has altered now that some of the investigation will be made public.
Mr. Atta Akyea previously told the committee that matters affecting national security would be recommended for an in-camera meeting.
