Dr. Abed Bandim, the Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu in the North East Region, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to take a firm stance against LGBTQ+ in Ghana. According to Dr. Bandim, the President’s inability to take a clear position on the matter is a cause for concern.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, Dr. Bandim stated that LGBTQ+ activities are an abomination to God, Ghana, and Africa as a whole. He further added that the Ghanaian society traditionally and morally abhors anything related to unnatural carnal knowledge.

Dr. Bandim urged the government to take a cue from Uganda, which has criminalized LGBTQ+ acts. He questioned why the Akufo-Addo government is scared to take a firm stance on the issue.

The MP also called on Christians to unite against any actions by the government to promote LGBTQ+ activities in the country. He assured Ghanaians that the National Democratic Congress MPs are in support of the passage of the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill,” which seeks to proscribe LGBTQ+ and related activities and provide protection and support for victims of LGBTQ+.

Dr. Bandim recalled the strong condemnations of the activities of the LGBTQ+ community in Ghana by former Presidents John Evans Atta-Mills and John Dramani Mahama. He added that they had both assured Ghanaians that there would be no legislation to back the practice in the country.

In conclusion, Dr. Abed Bandim urged President Akufo-Addo to take a firm stance against LGBTQ+ in Ghana and implored Christians to unite in the fight against the promotion of LGBTQ+ activities in the country.
