In Kpong, Eastern Region, a man believed to be in his 50s was discovered hanging from a tree next to the Volta River.
The community recognized the man’s body right away as the same individual they had seen in the neighborhood on Friday night.
The assemblyman for the Kpong Zongo Electoral Area, Gershon Amaglo, stated that the corpse was discovered early on Saturday morning and that the Kpong Police were notified right after.
He said there were suicide suspicions and that the dead was not well-known in the neighborhood.
According to the assemblyman’s account, when officials searched his bag, they found a cell phone and a brown parcel with a white envelope with the number 666 on it.
They also discovered a little red handbag with a ring inside.
The Kpong Police stated they were not authorized to talk in public when the Ghana News Agency called them, so they remained silent.
It was not possible to identify the dead.
None of the locals were able to identify the dead, however a source speculated that he could have been traveling when he arrived.
“We were unable to identify the body, and it appears that the deceased was travelling when he arrived in Kpong,” the source said.
It added: “I am unsure of what exactly transpired because we observed the deceased’s luggage, bags, and other belongings, and everyone in the area claims they are unaware of him.”
Following a casual physical inspection of the deceased, the source said: “There was a small mark on his forehead, and then he was bleeding from the nose as if he had fallen on his forehead.”
The body has been moved to the Odumase Krobo mortuary of the Atua Government Hospital in the interim in order to be preserved and examined post-mortem. The investigations are still being conducted by the police.
