Former Ghanaian football star, Michael Essien, has revealed that he is not interested in becoming the head coach of the Black Stars, despite holding both the UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A licenses. In a recent conversation with Nigerian journalist Lolade Adewuyi, Essien made it clear that he is not yet ready to manage Ghana’s national team.

Although Essien has acquired the necessary qualifications, he feels that the role of head coach is not suitable for him at this time. Adewuyi met Essien in Denmark while travelling to cover the UEFA Champions League game between Napoli and AC Milan.

Essien retired from professional football after playing for Azerbaijani side Sabail FK in 2020. He then began to pursue coaching badges, and in February, announced on social media that he had acquired the UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A licenses.

Currently serving as one of the assistant coaches for Danish club Nordsjaelland, Essien revealed in a 2021 interview that he had never considered becoming a coach. However, he acknowledged that he has a lot to offer younger players and is committed to imparting his knowledge to the next generation of footballers.

Despite his decision not to take on the role of head coach for the Black Stars, Essien’s qualifications and experience will continue to be invaluable in the world of football.
